Global Protein Prices Chase SBM Higher

Meat and bone meal (MBM) prices moved higher again this week, following the nearby soybean meal market higher. Tight supplies in some exporting countries and strong demand have pushed values into Indonesia as high as US$600 CIF and $570 into Vietnam, Taiwan, and Malaysia. Trading into China was steady this week.

Australian protein prices are steady this week, with most market reports steady or quiet. Demand for poultry proteins remains strong from both the pet and aquaculture industries. New Zealand MBM prices moved higher on strong demand from Indonesia. Both the Australian and New Zealand markets are headed for a period of very tight production in mid-December, which adds additional risk for higher prices…
