Organic Trade in E.U. is Facililitated

As the holiday season approaches, organic trading activity in Europe has slowed. Merchandisers tell The Jacobsen that there are a few transactions where consumers are looking to cover positions for December. Most consumers are covered for the Q1, but Q2 remains a period where prices could see volatility. Organic soybean meal prices are trading near 790 CIF if you can find some. There are still concerns that Chinese sellers will not deliver organic soybean meal in the Q1. Organic corn prices are also buoyed, with little activity. Organic corn prices FOB Ukraine is quoted near 250-Euros per metric ton but not readily available. Organic corn ROB Constanta is sightly higher at 260-Euros per metric ton. Organic wheat prices are slightly lower than corn at a discount of 5-euros per M.T.

E.U. Approves Organic Certification from the U.K. for 2021

The E.U. has decided to approve a regulation to recognize the U.K.’s six organic certification bodies equivalent to its own until December 31, 2021. This move will allow organic trading to continue without interruption until a trade deal complete. Recognition by the E.U. of the U.K.’s organic sector will ensure continued access to essential E.U. and Northern Irish markets and bring certainty to producers. There is still concern about what could happen after 2021. The U.K. is the world’s ninth-largest organic market, and organic produce sales to the E.U. are worth €225 million ($273 million) every year. This outcome reciprocates the U.K.’s decision to do the same for the E.U. organic control associations.
