U.S. Terminates Organic Recognition Agreement with India; Organic Soybeans are Stable

 

While it’s too early to determine how the U.S. ending the organic recognition agreement with India will impact organic soybean prices and organic soybean meal prices, the change is likely to affect players on the fridge. Most merchandisers, crushers, feed mills, traders, broiler, dairy, and layers operations deal with Indian exporters that are reputable, but there will always be a few that are on the fringe. It will be these players that will create an issue in the U.S.  

According to the USDA, Indian organic producers have six months to gain certification with a USDA-accredited certifying agent. Certifiers are currently at maximum capacity and will likely take time to address new certification requests. The agreement between the U.S. and India dates back to 2006. The USDA says that they “need a more active oversight presence in India to protect organic integrity more directly.” The main issue is…
