Organic corn prices continue to edge higher, with prices in the western-mid-west moving up to $7.50 per bushel. In California, prices have moved up to $360 per short ton, which is slightly above $10 per bushel. The pull westward will likely push prices in Pennsylvania above this level. Organic corn prices in PA have recently traded at $345 per short ton, and $350 per short ton. The Jacobsen, is aware of new crop prices going up to the $10.25 level delivered in PA. Up north, prices continue to remain stable. Organic corn about 100-miles north of Montreal are trading near $295 a short ton. This lackluster price movement compares to the elevated level of organic soybeans that traded at $20.40 per bushel about 100-miles north of Montreal.
Organic Animal Proteins Continue to Gain Traction
After surging into the holiday, organic turkey slaughter has moderated but still remain robust year over year. During the past month following the Thanksgiving holiday, organic turkey slaughter by weight has increased 43% year over year, reflecting the robust demand for organic turkeys. For the three months ending January 16, 2020, organic turkey slaughter by weight increased 217% year over year. The slaughter numbers are up a robust 178% year over year, while the average weight per turkey is up 29%.
