Trading was quiet to start the week. Hog slaughter finished last week at 2.675 million head, up slightly from last year and the prior week. Slaughter is forecast lower over the next six weeks, falling to an average of 2.596 million head, down 2 percent from 2020 levels. All eyes are going to be on the board following the USDA’s WASDE report release tomorrow and today’s trading might be an indication of pre-report expectations for a tighter balance sheet.
