Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Organic soybean meal prices remain elevated. During the scramble to cover, prices have traded as high as $1,300 per short ton on the east coast. Organic soybean meal is being offered close to $1,390 in Stockton, CA. The news that Lacon, an Indian organic certifier, has been permitted by APEDA to go back to certifying is only a small piece of the puzzle. TQ Cert handles most of the soybeans produced on farms, and they have yet to hear if they will be allowed to certify moving forward. Merchandisers have told The Jacobsen that TQ Cert handles more than 75% of the organic soybeans farmed in India. Organic soybean prices remain elevated and are trading near $26 per bushel in the Mid-west and on the East Coast. Look out above!
