Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Organic corn prices continue to remain stable, as most organic grain market participants focus on the organic soybean and byproduct complex. With US conventional soybeans breaking out technically and Indian conventional soybeans hitting all-time highs, it’s hard to see organic soybean and byproduct prices moderating soon. Organic corn prices on the east coast, in Pennsylvania and New York are trading near $10 per bushel. New crop organic corn for the fall is bid near $10.25 per bushel in Maryland. The runup in organic soybean and byproduct prices is a function of supply. The organic corn market is less of an issue since most of the organic corn consumed in the feed market in the US is domestically grown. With that in mind, a decline in imports eventually could take its toll.
