RIN Values Rise on Percentage Basis Outpaces Energy

RIN prices have matched all-time highs reached back in July of 2013.  Biodiesel RINs climbed 14 percent in value over the past week, settling at $1.48½ cents on Friday.  This is 19 cents per RIN over the prior Friday close and matches the high achieved on July 17, 2013. A year ago, biodiesel RINs were trading for 46 cents.

Ethanol RINs have increased in value at a more rapid pace than biodiesel RINs.  Over the past week ethanol RINs are up 20 percent, settling at $1.43 on Friday and also matching the value seen on July 17, 2013.  Biodiesel RINs are 223% higher than they were a year ago, but ethanol RINs have more than doubled the biodiesel RIN rise.  Ethanol RINs are up 479 percent.

Energy and soybean oil prices have not climbed as fast as RIN values.  ULSD prices gained one percent in value last week and are 73 percent higher than a…
