Biodiesel Consumption Off to a Slower 2021 Start

 

February Renewable Fuel Demand Down 11% From January

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.14 billion gallons of renewable fuel was consumed during February 2021, an 11 percent decline from January and 19 percent below February 2020. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation fell nine percent to 1.26 billion and was 19 percent below February 2020.  

Biomass-based diesel (D4) consumption was two percent over January but four percent below February 2020. February Biodiesel output was 1.4 percent over January, renewable diesel consumption was unchanged, and renewable jet fuel use was 1.7 percent above Jan.

Advanced biofuel (D5) credit generation declined 37 percent in January, driven largely by a 48.5 percent drop in co-processed renewable diesel consumption.  Co-processed renewable diesel is renewable diesel that is produced when an oil company adds renewable feedstock to the traditional…
