Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Renderer bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded higher today as did technical tallow. BFT traded in four cars and tech tallow for one car within the 30-day window. Choice white grease traded in a tighter range out of the Missouri River market at 47 – 48 cents FOB. The May soybean oil (SBO) contract has traded up 6.6 cents per pound or 12.8 percent since the close on April 12th. The continued strength in the SBO and corn markets has forced the hand of some buyers who had been waiting out the market.
Cargill and Love’s announced a joint venture for a renewable diesel production facility in Hastings, Nebraska. The joint venture called Heartland Renewables will produce and market renewable diesel from the planned production facility that is expected to have an annual capacity of approximately 80 million gallons.
