May Biomass-Based Diesel & Ethanol Production Move Higher

 

May 2021 Co-Processed Renewable Diesel Falls 27%, Biodiesel RIN Generation Up 2.6%

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.55 billion gallons of renewable fuel consumed during May, nine percent over April and 39 percent above May 2020. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation of 1.7 billion RINs was 8.3 percent over April and 35 percent above May 2020.  The conventional renewable fuel category (Ethanol D6) led the way, rising 10.7 percent from April.

Biomass-based diesel (D4) output increased 2.4 percent to 252.3 million gallons and was 6.7 percent above May 2020. During May, biodiesel consumption increased 1.2 percent, renewable diesel use climbed 7.4 percent, but renewable jet fuel production declined two percent. May 2021 compared to May 2020, biodiesel consumption is up 1.1 percent, renewable diesel 19 percent higher, and renewable jet fuel compares with no product consumed in May of 2020.
