Summer Hog Slaughter Continues to be Light

The market remained rangebound for the day with participants noting a light test of the day. For the week ending July 31st, 2021, hog slaughter is anticipated to be around 2.330 million head. This would be very similar from the previous week’s slaughter, a 1 percent decline from 2019, and an 8.2 percent drop from last year. Slaughter line movement continues to be regulated, slowing some locations and limiting the availability for porcine related items in the market.
