Corn & Soybean Conditions Fall, Cotton & Peanuts Improve

Drought conditions remain a concern.  US cropland has less than adequate topsoil moisture for 44 percent of the fields and is short to very short on subsoil moisture for 43 percent. Topsoil moisture levels declined by five points since last week and subsoil moisture is three points lower.  South Dakota has adequate topsoil moisture for only 18 percent of the land and subsoil moisture is 16 percent adequate.

Corn crop conditions declined over the past week.  Fields rated good to excellent slipped a point to 64 percent, those rated fair were also down a point to 26 percent, and crops seen as poor to very poor increased a point to 10 percent.  Conditions are below last season when 68 percent of the crop was rated good to excellent and seven percent as poor to very poor.  North Dakota’s corn crop is suffering with 39 percent of the crop rated…
