Midwest Accounts for Nearly 60% of Biodiesel Production

A total of 1.7 billion gallons of biodiesel was produced in the United States in 2019 with production in 32 states.  Iowa was the lead producer with 342 million gallons, followed by Texas, Missouri, and Illinois with 214, 198, and 134 million gallons respectively. The Midwest accounted for 57 percent of production.

State by state production data is not currently available for 2020 and 2021.  EPA data shows 1.2 billion gallons of biodiesel was produced domestically in 2020. During the first eight months of 2021, domestic biodiesel production reached 1.1 billion gallons, with an additional 560 million gallons expected before the end of the year.
