Rail Car Scarcity Drives Nearby Bearishness

Trading was sharply lower again today with tight rail car availability push more material into the local trucks markets. Typically much of the weekly trade is sewn up by end of day Thursday, but unsold loads were plentiful today and sellers discounted material to attract local demand for truck shipments.

At the close of the week, decreases on the weekly average were noted for most of the animal fats, distillers corn oil and used cooking oil markets. The choice white grease FOB Mo. River market saw the largest decline, down 6.5 percent or 3.45 cents per pound compared to last week, on reports of increased availability for the short term. The used cooking oil market was down 4.6 percent or three cents per pound. Chicago bleachable fancy tallow was lower on increased nearby availability with sellers dropping prices throughout the week in an effort to move material.
