Biomass-Based Diesel Imports Rise During September – EIA
According to the Energy Information Agency (EIA), the United States imported 44.3 million gallons of biomass-based diesel during September. Imports increased 19 percent from August and were 20 percent over September 2020. Renewable diesel imports exceeded biodiesel imports by 9.2 million gallons for the month. California remains the primary market for renewable diesel in the US with strong margins driving demand. Renewable diesel represented 60 percent of total biomass-based diesel imports during the month, down from 68 percent last month.
The 2021 biomass-based diesel import pace is 46 percent over 2020 through September. Renewable diesel imports continue to surge due to West Coast LCFS demand and have already achieved a yearly all-time high. Renewable diesel imports are 58 percent above the 2020 pace.
