A Clean Fuel Standard is Among Recommendations Being Considered
New York’s Climate Action Council is tasked with developing a draft scoping plan to serve as an initial framework for how the State will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions, increase renewable energy usage, and ensure climate justice. This plan has just been released and January 1, 2022, marks the 120-day public comment period to allow feedback as the Council works to develop and release a final scoping plan by the end of 2022.
The Plan’s ‘Vision for 2030’ is to accelerate GHG emission reductions to the level needed by 2030. By 2030 nearly 100 percent of light duty vehicle (LDV) and 40 percent or more of medium/heavy duty vehicle (MHD) sales must be zero emission vehicles and a substantial portion of personal transportation in urbanized areas would be required to shift to public transportation and other low-carbon modes.
