Low Carbon Expansion Contributes to Big Increases in Animal Fat Prices

The week closed with higher prices in the choice white grease, yellow grease, UCO and brown grease markets. Concerns over supply availability and big demand from the chemical and renewable sectors have contributed to the higher prices this week. As competition has increased, both in terms of total feedstock needed as well as the number of producers buying feedstock, buyers are paying higher prices to try and attract more supply.

Choice white grease prices are up 12.9 percent from last week and are up 36 percent over the last four weeks. DCO prices hit 70 cents per pound FOB this week. The weekly average for the Mo. River market is up 6.8 percent week-on-week and up 22.3 percent over the last four weeks. Packer BFT, which has been indirectly influenced by renewable demand, is up 7.3 percent from last week and up 27.5 percent over the last four weeks.
