Monthly Renewable Diesel Blending Surpasses Biodiesel for First Time

 

January Renewable Fuel Blending 19% Below December 

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.44 billion gallons of renewable fuel was consumed during January, 17 percent below December but 12 percent over January 2021. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation of 1.6 billion RINs was 19 percent below December but 12 percent above January 2021.  All fuel categories showed declining blending volumes in January, with biomass-based diesel production falling more than 39 percent from December.

January biomass-based diesel (D4) consumption of 221 million gallons was 39 percent below December but 16 percent above January 2021.  Within the D4 category, monthly biodiesel use fell 52 percent, renewable diesel consumption declined 21 percent, and renewable jet fuel blending increased 30 percent.
