LCFS Credit Prices Trade Below $140 for First Time Since May 2019

LCFS credit volume for the week ending February 27, 2022, of 600,923 continued to move higher for a second straight week. Trading volume increased nearly 11 percent from last week and was 113 percent over the prior four-week average of 282,214.   

Increased volume did not translate into rising credit prices, as 50.5 percent of the volume was transacted below $160, and 21 percent of the volume was under $140. Credit prices reached a three year low of $136 and appear to be trending lower on a weekly basis as contracted trades follow spot market trades lower.

First quarter LCFS credit volume is 25 percent over first quarter 2020 and fractionally above fourth quarter volume. There were 48 transactions during the week, exactly matching the number of transactions the week before. The weighted average price for all credits traded decreased $2.40 to…
