February Biofuel Use Slows with a 12% Drop in Ethanol Blending

 

February Renewable Fuel Blending Falls 4% From January, but 21% Above Year Ago  

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.38 billion gallons of renewable fuel consumed in February, four percent below January but 21 percent over February 2021. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation of 1.5 billion RINs was three percent below January but 22 percent over February 2021.  Slowing Ethanol blending led the program lower for the month.

Biomass-based diesel (D4) consumption of 246.6 million gallons in February was 11 percent above January and 27 percent over February 2021.  Within the D4 category, monthly biodiesel use increased 13 percent, renewable diesel consumption climbed eight percent, and renewable jet fuel blending was noticeably higher.
