Vertex Commissions Alabama’s First Renewable Diesel Facility

Vertex Energy, Inc, cut the ribbon on its first renewable diesel facility at the company’s Mobile refinery and the first renewable diesel facility in Alabama.  Vertex leaders were joined by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey who called the project “a testament to Alabama’s ingenuity and resilience.” Highlighting new technologies being used to provide traditional fuels Alabamians depend on.

Vertex began their renewable diesel endeavor in 2022 when they acquired a conventional fuels refinery from Shell plc.  They immediately launched a $115 million conversion project aimed at converting a standalone unit within the refinery facilitate production of renewable diesel.

Mechanical completion was achieved March 31st. The newly converted renewable diesel unit (RDU) is specifically designed to produce renewable diesel fuel.  Soybean oil serves as the primary feedstock, but the…
