Soybean Meal Market Starts to Weigh on Proteins

Please Note – The Jacobsen offices will be closed on Monday for the Juneteenth holiday. We will resume our normal publication schedule on Tuesday, June 20th.
Highly unsettled tones and irregular pricing patterns were indicated on animal proteins this week. Lower soybean meal prices have pressured the spot markets for not only poultry-by pet food grade but also on ruminant and porcine meat and bonemeal, but limited spot supply in some markets has helped keep prices firm. However, buyers are starting to indicate increased availability which has led to some pulling back on increased optionality.

Poultry-by pet food grade showed the largest drop for the week with a 6.4 or $62.50/st drop on weekly averages from last week. Excess supplies were reported from multiple participants on accounts of slowdowns or stoppages at pet food plants while others continued to witness no offerings on the spot market.
