Organic Dairy Stakeholders Look for More Relief in 2023 Farm Bill

Price sensitive organic dairies have been pinched by higher feed costs and stagnant milk checks, threatening to erode demand for organic feedstuff.  A major processor of organic milk in the Netherlands decreased its September price offering by €1.25/100Kg. 

Back in the U.S., one-third of organic dairies have gone out business over the last four years. The Northeast is on front lines of organic dairy attrition.  Horizon Organic and Maple Hill Creamery dropped 92 NY organic dairy farms during the pandemic.  Horizon dropped another further 43 dairies throughout New England.  This left many of these dairies without an organic milk truck to service their bulk tanks, and nowhere to market their organic milk.
