August U.S. renewable fuel blending revved higher for the first time in three months. Strong performance from the U.S. renewable diesel sector lifted total renewable fuel use for the month. August blending of 1.77 billion gallons was 1.5 percent above the 1.74 billion gallons blended in July, and 7.3 percent over the 1.65 billion blended during August 2022. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation reached 2.04 billion RINs in August, 2.4 percent above July and 11 percent over August 2022.
Domestic renewable diesel and domestic biodiesel consumption were noticeably higher in August, ending a two-month consumption decline. Domestic renewable diesel blending hit a 2023 high of 174.4 million gallons, topping the previous high of 167.8 million gallons reached in May. This was also an all-time high as capacity continues to expand and come online.
