Honeywell, GranBio Partner to Produce SAF

U.S.-based Honeywell and Brazilian-based GranBio Technologies will partner to produce carbon-neutral sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from biomass residues. In a joint news release, the companies said Honeywell’s ethanol-to-jet (ETJ) technology will be combined with GranBio’s cellulosic ethanol AVAP technology at GranBio’s U.S. demonstration plant.

The fuel produced by Honeywell’s ETJ technology can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to net-zero on a total lifecycle basis, compared to petroleum-based jet fuel, the news release said. Sustainable aviation fuel is made from renewable biomass and waste resources and can be used as a direct replacement for traditional jet fuel.
