Monthly imports of biomass-based diesel (BBD) reached a yearly high in August after posting a three-month low of 63.3 million gallons in July, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). August imports jumped to 83.75 million gallons, easily surpassing the prior yearly high of 71.48 million gallons set in March and pushing to their highest level in six years.
August BBD imports were 32 percent above July and 152 percent over the 33 million gallons imported in August 2022. More than 561 million gallons of BBD have been imported during 2023, averaging 70 million gallons per month.
Biodiesel imports were 42 million gallons, 37 percent over July and 167 percent above the 16 million gallons imported during August 2022. Renewable diesel imports reached 42 million gallons, 28 percent above July and 138 percent over the 18 million gallons imported during August 2022.
