Strong Domestic Biofuel Production Buoy’s Soybean Oil Demand

October Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) RIN generation was eight percent above September, reversing last month’s five percent decline and generating the second largest number of monthly RINs this year. The gallons of renewable fuel blended jumped to 1.82 billion, a record high for the year. Production rebounded in the conventional (D6) and biomass-based diesel (D4) categories, along with strong import activity during the month.

October RIN generation reached 2.11 billion RINs, 7.7 percent above September and 16 percent above October 2022. The 1.82 billion gallons of fuel blended was 7.6 percent above September and 13 percent higher year over year.

Strong ethanol consumption and a continued over-production within the D4 biomass-based diesel (BBD) category contributed to the October rise in RIN generation and fuel production. Domestic ethanol consumption was up 9.5 percent from September, carrying the D6 sector higher.
