Organic Feed Markets Move Sideways into 2024

Organic feed commodity markets continue unchanged as the new year commences.  Besides the rush to service animal feeders prior to, and over the course of the holidays, markets are slow.  Broader economic conditions continue to be the most salient concern in 2024 insofar as demand for organic products is concerned.

Soybean meal has maintained its $800/short ton floor in all markets.  There have been reports of sharp freight increases on the back of attacks by Houthi rebels on Red Sea shipping concerns.  The situation in the Panama Canal had already put significant pressure on global shipping.
