Biomass-based diesel had stronger than expected blending data over the fourth quarter of 2023. Surpassing mandated production and beating EPA expectations on the additional amounts needed to fill shortfalls in other fuel categories.

The excess production has created negative pressure within the market. Strong Q4 production limited some first quarter 2024 demand and the large production also sent RIN prices spiraling lower, causing some biofuel producers to pull back on production.
