Glycerin Prices Seen Holding Steady with Unchanged 2024 RVO for BBD

The Jacobsen’s weekly survey of the glycerin market found little change from the week prior. One buyer noted it has been “eerily quiet lately, but I’m was not having any problem purchasing material.”

Crude glycerin reporting is holding within last week’s parameters, at this point. Market uncertainty continues and questions continue to circle around renewable diesel production and margins.

Continued strength in domestic renewable diesel output, like the market witnessed in December, could threaten glycerin supply, given glycerin is a byproduct of biodiesel production. Domestic renewable diesel blending reached 273 million gallons during December, not only marking a record monthly high for 2023, but a monthly all-time. If RD production continues at this pace, it may pose problems for biodiesel producers and glycerin supply.
