December biodiesel imports reached 47.7 million gallons, two percent over and 99 percent above the 29.9 million gallons received in December 2022. There was 514 million gallons of biodiesel imported by the U.S. in 2023. This was the largest volume of imports since the 400 million gallons received in 2017 and surpassed 2022 imports of 237 million gallons by 115 percent. Additionally, December imports were 99 percent above the five-year December average of 24 million gallons.

Biodiesel imports arrived from six countries, down from nine in November. Germany, Spain, and Canada were the top contributors, supplying 84 percent of the volume. Italy and Malaysia provided most of the remaining balance. Biodiesel imports averaged 43 million gallons per month, noticeably above the 2022 average of 20 million gallons.
