Light Trade Keeps Values Steady for Thursday

Limited trade was reported for Thursday, with most values inside the previously set ranges. The chicken meal, Mid-South price remains unquoted today, due to a lack of fresh reports in the market.

January Livestock and Poultry Slaughter

According to the most recent Livestock Slaughter report from the USDA, commercial cattle slaughter totaled 2.730 million head for January, lower by 3.4 percent from the previous year but 5.3 percent up from last month. Cattle slaughter was down 1.0 percent from the three-year average of 2.758 million head. December cattle weights were down from last month by two pounds. (Fig. 1)
