Cattle on Feed inventory 1.31% above last year

Placed on Feed Cattle for February Higher by 9.69% YoY

Based on the Friday March 22 USDA Cattle on Feed report, March 1 inventory showed the total on-feed numbers equated to 11,838,000 head, up 1.31% from the respective month in 2023. During February, cattle placed on feed was at 1.890 million head, or 9.69% above last year.

Marketings for February were higher than 2023, up 3.40% to 1.793 million head. Higher head counts on cattle have been indicated for most regions for the current month, though the higher cash cattle price continues to be lofty.
