Latest CPI reveals a persistently hot economy

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) data yesterday representing the month of March. The CPI increased 0.4 percent in March on a seasonally adjusted basis after posting the same increase in February. March increases were attributed primarily to housing and gasoline.

The slight uptick in the food index from February is attributed to “food away from home.” The “food at home” category is flat, which is some good news for the organic animal protein sectors amid persistent inflation.
