Total RFS blending falls in March, domestic biodiesel blending increases

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.66 billion gallons of renewable fuel blended within the nation’s transportation fuel pool during March. Blending was six percent below February and one percent under March 2023. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation fell five percent to 1.91 billion RINs and was one percent below March 2023 RIN generation.

March marked the end of first quarter RFS production. There were 5.86 billion RINs generated during the quarter, nine percent over Q1 2023, but five percent below fourth quarter 2023. Despite the increase, RIN generation remains weak in several categories.
