Slower Gulf demand weighs on animal fats market

Limited volumes of choice white grease traded at steady prices on Friday April 26, while trading was very quiet outside of the choice white grease market.

Price direction in the animal fats and oils market was mixed this past week, but market sentiment grew progressively more negative over the course of the week due to slowing demand from buyers in the US Gulf market.

For the week to Saturday April 27, choice white grease FOB Missouri River traded down 3.1% from the prior week’s average. Trading was done as low as 36 cents per lb early in the week.

Distillers’ corn oil (DCO) on an FOB Missouri River basis traded down 2.4% from the prior week’s average, mostly due to heavier spot supplies tied to slower shipments and lower bids into the US Gulf market.
