Gulf tallow prices higher; optimism builds for higher demand for June

Tallow traded higher into the US Gulf market on Monday April 29, up to 41 cents per lb delivered. Outside of the Gulf market, trading was quiet with sources saying, “the last half of May and early June looks stronger.”

USDA estimated cattle slaughter finished last week at an estimated 613,000 heads, down by 2.2% year on year and down by 1.1% week on week.

Fastmarkets’ research team has forecast US cattle slaughter at 625,000 heads this week and at an average of 616,700 heads per week for the next six weeks.
