Meat and bone meal steady in most regions, lower in Australia

International animal proteins prices were steady to lower, depending on region, for the week to Wednesday May 1.

Fastmarkets assessed meat and bone meal, bovine, export, cfr China and meat and bone meal, bovine, export, cfr Indonesia steady week on week, both at $470-480 per tonne on DATE.

Australian prices for cattle products were reported weaker for the start of May, with one source saying it was due to, “increased [Australian cattle] production, a lack of domestic and export demand and overseas buyers slowing demand in the last two months due to sufficient stock.”

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) reported cattle slaughter at 109,213 head for the week to Friday April 26. This is 25,262 head lower from the week prior, but higher from the same week in 2023 by 10,732 head.
