Strong feed demand boosts choice white grease market

Choice white grease (CWG) prices rose on Monday May 20, supported by the market expectation of tighter supply heading into the long holiday weekend in the US and on strong demand from the feed sector.

If there is no action in the Chicago CWG market on Tuesday May 21, the price will be unquoted.

The Fastmarkets research team has forecast a drop in hog slaughter ahead of the Memorial Day break and heading into the Fourth of July holiday.

Slaughter for the week to Saturday May 25 is forecast at 2.400 million head, up by 1.9% year on year and down by 0.2% week on week.

The 2.400 million head is a high point in the forecast for the next six weeks, which is projected to average 2.317 million head per week, down by 4.3% from the prior six-week average.
