US Gulf crude-degummed soybean oil basis rises; RBD flat

The US spot vegetable oil market was very quiet on Monday May 20. Many end users remained well covered through September, sources told Fastmarkets. This has left feedstock buying — especially from the renewable diesel (RD) sector — very subdued in the last few weeks, with traded volumes on the lighter side.

But a couple of larger RD producers that have been out of the market for the last month or so were expected to return to the buy side before the end of the month.

Fastmarkets assessed prompt cottonseed oil, PBSY, fob Mississippi Valley at $0.52-0.53 per lb on Monday, widening upward from $0.52 per lb on Friday May 17.

US cash basis indications on crude/degummed soybean oil rose on Monday, while indications for refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD) soyoil were flat.
