Animal protein prices steady to lower ahead of Memorial Day; US SC port times extended following stoppages

Limited trade volumes for animal proteins in the US have been reported for the week beginning Monday May 20. Sources have reported mixed-to-bearish price sentiment due to the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and corresponding drop in demand.

Market sources have indicated that quick ships ahead of the Memorial Day weekend have been moving at a price premium or discount depending on buyer or seller’s needs.

Multiple sources have reported pressure on poultry by-product pet grade prices in several regions due to diminished pet food and export interest. 

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for poultry by-product meal, pet food, 14 Ash 64 Pro, fob US Southeast was $675-750 per short ton on Tuesday May 21, down from $700-800 per short ton on Monday.

Fastmarkets’ price assessment for poultry by-product meal, pet food, 14 Ash 64 Pro, fob US Mid-South was $725-775 per short ton on Tuesday, down from $750-800 per short ton on Monday.
