House Agriculture Committee defines SAF in Farm Bill, authorizes support programs

During a markup session for the so-called “Farm Bill” on Thursday May 23, the US House of Representatives’ Agriculture Committee defined sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as an advanced biofuel, and reauthorized two programs that could provide financial support for SAF production.

The Farm Bill — officially the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024 — is an omnibus bill passed every five years that provides official government policy for agriculture, as well as support for farmers and various related programs.

The marked up version of the bill as it passed out of the Agriculture Committee is not final and will be subject to extensive negotiations in the House of Representatives, as well as in the Senate.

In the marked up version of the Farm Bill, the Agriculture Committee reauthorized the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) and the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels (BPAB).
