US hog slaughter projected lower into July

Hog trade in the US was limited on Monday June 3 by a combination of a new month and sharply lower nearby prices for soybean oil on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. No hog price changes were reported.

Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts hog slaughter at 2.375 million head in the week to June 8, up by 10.2% week on week and by 0.9% year on year.

Over the next six weeks, Fastmarkets projects hog slaughter to average 2.292 million head per week, up by 0.6% year on year and down by 2.4% from the prior six-week average.
