US animal protein exports in April fall month on month: USDA

Animal protein trading into China and Vietnam was flat in the week ended Thursday June 13, with no price changes reported. Sources indicated that market dynamics were mostly unchanged from last week.

Prices out of Australia and New Zealand were steady, with consistent demand reported. Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) estimated cattle slaughter at 140,042 head for the week to June 7, down by 2,120 head from the week prior but still well above 2023 levels.

Sources reported that mid-winter seasonality will start to slow production in New Zealand, which will cut regional supply in the near term.

US prices have been mostly steady this week, but there have been indications of negative price pressure due to weakness in the soybean meal futures market in early June. July soybean meal futures prices were marginally higher on Wednesday June 12 following the down session in the previous day.
