US biomass diesel capacity reaches new high of 6 bln gallons annually on strong RD growth

Biodiesel and renewable diesel (RD) capacity in the US expanded in April, according to data released on Friday June 28 by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA). Combined capacity increased by 4.8% to an all-time high of 6.1 billion gallons, up from 5.8 billion gallons in March.

Biodiesel capacity rose by 7 million gallons to 1.99 billion gallons in April, marking a capacity increase for the first time in seven months. Biodiesel capacity has been on a slow decline since 2022 and is 4.6% lower year on year.

RD capacity increased by 272 million gallons to 4.13 billion gallons in April. This was a 7.1% growth from March and a 26% rise from April 2023. The ramping up of Phillips 66’s Rodeo facility was behind the capacity increase.
