Weekly organic chicken slaughter numbers have levelled off and may be trending upwards if the current pace continues. Organic chicken slaughter volume has steadily declined from recent highs of over 8 million pounds at the outset of the third quarter of 2023. Over the past six weeks, weekly slaughter numbers have exceeded seven million pounds for four of the six weeks.

Organic chicken demand is easily destroyed by high prices, which have lingered. Economic reports show key inflation indicators are improving. The “food at home” category of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has stabilized, showing 0.1%…
