Widespread crop and infrastructure damage weighs on organic producers

As the 2024 growing season progresses, the weather-related losses are accruing. Fastmarkets has spoken to far-flung organic producers from Nebraska and Kansas to the Upper Midwest and Northeast that have experienced significant crop losses from 2024 storms.

Along with severe flooding in some cases, we’ve heard reports of widespread hail damage. With some of that hail falling over the last week, it isn’t clear how much summer crops will rebound if at all. Replanting is no longer an option for Upper Midwestern growers.
