Soybean oil/heating oil futures price spread widens

The soybean oil/heating oil (BOHO) futures spread widened in the week to Monday July 22, with losses in heating oi markets offsetting small gains in soybean oil prices. Week on week, the BOHO spread was up by 13% to nearly $1.01 per gallon.

In early July, the BOHO spread climbed to a six-month high after soybean oil futures rallied.

Soybean oil is the most widely-used feedstock in the production of biomass-based diesel, and the BOHO spread is used as a proxy to measure the profitability of producing biodiesel from soybean oil.
