Organic soybean meal imports help mitigate price volatility

Organic soybean meal imports help mitigate price volatility

The pivot from organic soybeans to organic soybean meal – much of it from Africa – continues to build momentum. There is scant news of spot market activity as consumers lean into existing contracts.

Prices have remained stable as the flow of organic soybean meal imports continue unimpeded. Typically, during the last quarter of the marketing year, trade becomes spotty as both growers and consumers contemplate the new marketing year ahead.

If organic soybean meal imports persist at sufficient levels, there will be little room for prices to increase. The caveat is that any perceived supply constraints in organic feed markets, which can occur regionally, may have impacts to pricing beyond that region.

Organic soybean meal imports rose sharply during the current marketing year. According to bills of lading viewed by Fastmarkets, organic soybean meal imports rose by 13,300 tonnes in June.
